Executive Director's Message
Waiting for Superman is a MUST SEE!
Last night I had the opportunity to go to the movies with some pretty neat people, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, D.C. Chancellor of Schools Michelle Rhee, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Governor Schwarzenegger. The movie was a special screening of Waiting for Superman. This is a very emotionally powerful movie, telling through the lives of families from cities across America, their battle to find great schools for their children, and how their success rests on their luck of winning the (admissions) lottery. If you are a Rocklin Academy and/or Western Sierra family you won that lottery. This movie is about families that want what you want – a great education for your children. One of the schools featured is Summit Prep. Summit Prep was at the State Board fighting for their second school – Everest Prep, at the same time we were there fighting for our approval of Western Sierra. While the family’s journey to Summit Prep in the movie may seem to be most relevant to us in Rocklin, the reality is that all parents in every city and town in America deserve the opportunity to choose a high quality school for their children.
Rocklin Academy and Western Sierra have great teachers and staff who give 100% every day, in partnership with great parents - an unbeatable combination. What you might not have thought of is that our community, our state and our country are better because we are part of the battle to provide every parent with the opportunity to choose the best school for their children.
Please plan to see the movie and urge your family and friends to do the same (http://www.waitingforsuperman.com/.) It will affirm the sacrifices you make for your children and make you proud to be part of the Rocklin Academy family. It will be showing at the Century 14 on Ethan Way starting this weekend and we are organizing, with the Board of Directors, a “field trip” to the movie when it opens in Roseville during the October 15 – 17 weekend. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in joining us.
